ExcelStor Technology was a Chinese hard drive manufacturer based in Shenzhen / People's Republic of China , where the production was also located. The company was founded in 2001 and shortly thereafter took over the US hard drive manufacturer Conner Technologies . The ExcelStor development center was therefore in Longmont / Colorado (USA). ExcelStor is partly owned by Shenzhen Kaifa Technology , which in turn is majority owned by Great Wall Technology . ExcelStor has not been present on the hard drive market since around 2010/2011.

Products

The company initially manufactured hard drive models from IBM under license and developed by Conner Technologies. A far-reaching patent exchange and manufacturing agreement was then concluded with IBM, which continued to exist even after the IBM hard drive division was sold to Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) and was even expanded at times: ExcelStor has been manufacturing hard drives for HGST since mid-2003. In addition, in-house developments will continue to be manufactured and sold.

ExcelStor's strategy was to manufacture and develop hard drives that were as inexpensive as possible for the Asian market. As a specialty, ExcelStor named its hard drive series after the planets and moons of our solar system (e.g. Jupiter , Ganymede , Europe , Venus ).
