The Exeter Railway was a British railway company based in Devon , England .

The company was founded as "Exeter, Teign Valley and Chagford Railway" on August 20, 1883 to build a 14 km long railway line from Exeter St. Thomas via Doddiscombesleigh to Christow . There was a connection to the Teign Valley Railway . In addition, the company received the concession to build a 16-kilometer route to Chagford . The line was operated on a lease basis by the Great Western Railway . The Exeter Railway was only integrated into the GWR by the Railways Act 1921 on January 1, 1923. Passenger traffic on the railway line was discontinued in 1958 and freight traffic in 1968.
