Exidy was an American manufacturer of Arcade - Video game machines from Sunnyvale in California , who was one of the largest suppliers in 1974 to 1983 in this market. The company was founded by HR "Pete" Kaufman. The company name (company) Exidy was a combination of the words "Excellence in Dynamics".
Well-known Exidy games were Circus , Crash , Death Race , Star Fire , Venture , Pepper II , Mouse Trap , Targ , and Spectar . The game Star Fire also played a major role in the feature film Madness Hunt at Midnight . Many Exidy games can now be played again on the M.AME PC emulator .
Death Race (1976) was the first controversial video game because in this game you have to run over virtual pedestrians.
Exidy also developed the Exidy Sorcerer home computer in 1978 .
1985 saw Vertigo, the company's first in-house arcade simulation game.
In 2006, Mean Hamster Software acquired the naming rights for new games under the Exidy label.
At the end of 2007 / beginning of 2008, eleven original games were gradually released by the developers as ROM images for the MAME emulator for private, non-commercial use for free download.
