The Exile Rock is a small cliff rock in the archipelago of the Heard and McDonald Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located about 2 km west of Cape Arkona on the island of Heard .
The rock is named after the American tender Exile from New London , Connecticut , who headed for a seal hunt on Heard Island in 1855 .
