Barry Duxbury

Sir John Barry Duxbury , KCB , CBE , FRAeS (born January 23, 1934 - † January 25, 1997 ) was a British Air Force officer in the Royal Air Force , who held the rank of Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) from 1983 to 1985, Air Force Secretary ( Air Secretary ) at the Department of Aviation.

Life

Officer training, officer and staff officer

John Barry Duxbury, son of Lloyd Duxbury and his wife Hilda Robins, began his military career on September 23, 1953 as a navigational cadet after attending school in Lancashire, and on January 22, 1954, he became a Short Service Commission in the Royal Air Force . After his promotion to lieutenant ( pilot officer ) he was taken on as a professional soldier (permanent commission) in the RAF on January 22, 1955 and was initially a navigation officer in the naval aviation and was promoted to first lieutenant ( flying officer ) on January 22, 1956 . He was a navigational officer of the Airplane & Armament Experiment Establishment and was promoted to captain ( Flight Lieutenant ) on July 22, 1959 . After attending the Canadian Forces Staff College , he was a staff officer of the Central Trials & Tactics Organization and received his promotion to Major ( Squadron Leader ) on January 1, 1965 .

Duxbury, on 1 January 1967 Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) was adopted on 27 June 1969 the post of staff officer for operations in the headquarters of the Air Force Coastal Command ( RAF Coastal Command ) and was during his use there at first January 1970 to lieutenant colonel ( wing commander ). Subsequently, he was on March 1, 1971, first for a short time commander ( Officer Commanding ) of No. 201 Squadron RAF and then on October 20, 1971 Personal Staff Officer to the Chief of the Air Staff ( Chief of the Air Staff ) , Air Chief Marshal Sir Denis Spotswood . On January 1, 1974 he was promoted to Colonel ( Group Captain ) and was then General Staff Officer for Intelligence in the Air Force Staff on January 3, 1974. He was then commandant of the RAF St Mawgan military airport in Cornwall from June 4, 1976 to March 17, 1978, and at the same time as Queen Elizabeth II's aide-de-camp from June 3, 1977 to January 1, 1978 .

Ascent to the Air Marshal

After his promotion to Brigadier General ( Air Commodore ) on 1 January 1978 Barry Duxbury was on 17 March 1978 Secretary of the Chief of Staff Committee, Chief of Defense Staff ( Chief of the Defense Staff ) , Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Neil Cameron or from September 1, 1979 by his successor Admiral of the Fleet Sir Terence Lewin . On December 31, 1980 he was promoted to Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and on July 1, 1982 to Major General ( Air Vice Marshal ). He then became Director General of the Personnel Management Department of the RAF on December 17, 1982 and, as such, took over the post that had been vacant since 1978 as Air Secretary in 1983 and was responsible for career planning, promotions and appointments of officers of the RAF in the Air Ministry ). In this post he remained until his replacement by Air Vice Marshal Tony Mason in December 1985. At the same time he was on September 13, 1983 also Commander AOC (Air Officer Commanding) of the Center for Personnel Management.

After Duxbury had received his promotion to Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) on March 21, 1986, he also succeeded Air Marshal Sir John Fitzpatrick on March 21, 1986 Commander of No. 18 Group RAF . He remained in this post until he was replaced by Air Marshal Sir Michael Stear . As commander of No. 18 Group RAF , he was most recently in command of the Allied Air Forces in the English Channel and the East Atlantic area MAIREASTLANT (Allied Maritime Air Forces Channel & Eastern Atlantic Area) . On June 14, 1986 he was beaten Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) and has since been named "Sir". On January 2, 1990, he left active military service and retired. He then became Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) as well as Secretary of the Defense Industries Council and Director of the Carroll Group in 1990 . In 1992 he became a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS). His marriage to Joan Leake in 1954 had a son.
