The Extremadurische (extremadurisch: estremeñu , ehtremeñu even Cahtúo ) is a Romance language , in Spain , mainly in the autonomous community of Extremadura is spoken.
According to Ethnologue, there are around 200,000 speakers and around 500,000 in total who are able to use the language.
Dialects
Extremaduric is usually divided into three dialects : Northern Extremaduric (artu estremeñu) , Central Extremaduric (meyu estremeñu), and Southern Extremaduric (bahu estremeñu) . The northern variant is commonly considered the standard and is spoken in the northwest of the autonomous community of Extremadura and in the southwest of the province of Salamanca . The central and southern variants are spoken in the rest of Extremadura and in the Andalusian provinces of Huelva and Seville . In the Portuguese border town of Barrancos , a dialect of Portuguese called " Barranquenho " is spoken, which is strongly influenced by Extremadurian.
Culture
The organization APLEx has existed since 2003, whose aim is to preserve and promote the Extremadurian language and culture.
