The ball was organized from 2010 to 2018 by the then general director of the Spanish Riding School, Elisabeth Gürtler-Mauthner . The proceeds went to the breeding of the Lipizzaner horses .

The first Fête Impériale took place on July 10, 2010, the second on July 7, 2011 and the third on June 29, 2012. Further dates were June 28, 2013 and June 27, 2014.
