The municipality Escoma is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality Escoma was set up as an independent municipality by law in 2009 and emerged from the cantons Escoma, Villa Puni, Collasuyo and Peninsula de Challapata, which were four of the nine cantons of the municipality Puerto Acosta until 2009 .

Today the municipality of Escoma is one of five municipalities in the province of Eliodoro Camacho and is located in the central part of the province. It is bordered in the northeast, north and west by the municipality of Puerto Acosta , in the south by Lake Titicaca , in the southeast by the municipality of Puerto Carabuco , and in the east by the municipality of Mocomoco .

The municipality consists of 26 sub-cantons ( vicecantones ) and has 38 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Escoma with 1,162 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southeastern part of the municipality.

The municipality of Escoma is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Real .
