Challapata Belén is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Challapata Belen is the central place of the canton Península de Challapata in the 2009 newly formed district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Escoma , previously part of the Municipio Puerto Acosta , in the province of Eliodoro Camacho . The village is located at an altitude of 3836 m on the Challapata peninsula ( Península de Challapata ) on the eastern bank of Lake Titicaca at the mouth of the Río Suches .

Challapata Belén is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between Lake Titicaca in the west and the Cordillera Muñecas in the east. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
The mean average temperature of the region is 8 to 9 ° C (see Escoma climate diagram). The monthly averages vary only insignificantly between June / July (5–6 ° C) and November / December (10 ° C). The mean annual precipitation is about 800 mm, the monthly values in the arid period are between under 20 mm from June to August and a humidity period from December to March with values between 120 and 165 mm.
Transport network
Challapata Belen is 173 kilometers by road north of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
La Paz leads the paved highway Ruta 2 north 70 km to Huarina from more there 97 km the Ruta 16 through Achacachi , Ancoraimes and Puerto Carabuco by Escoma . From Escoma to the northwest, a branch line leads to the rural town of Puerto Acosta , and to the north, Ruta 16 continues towards Charazani . In Escoma, a dirt road branches off from Ruta 16 in a south-westerly direction, follows the Río Suches to the south and reaches Challapata Belén after six kilometers past the village of Collasuyo .

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population; in the municipality of Puerto Acosta in the 2001 borders, 97.3 percent of the population spoke the Aymara language .
