Federation of European National Engineering Associations
The Federation of European National Engineering Associations (registered in the register in Brussels in French as Fédération Européenne d'Associations Nationales d'Ingénieurs , abbreviated FEANI ; English European Federation of National Engineering Associations ) is a non-profit organization under Belgian law ( AISBL ). The association does lobby work.

FEANI is the European umbrella organization of national engineering associations, its three working languages are set as English , French and German . Members can only be national engineering associations, which in turn represent the interests of their individual members. As of 2014, 350 national professional and scientific organizations from 32 European countries are listed as members, representing 3.5 to 4 million engineers.
Until 2008 the director of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), Willi Fuchs, was the president of FEANI. On October 3rd, 2008 he was replaced by the Danish Lars Boytoft Olsen.
Advocacy
According to its own information, FEANI is recognized as an authority in all matters relating to the training and professional development of engineers, both in Europe and worldwide.
The mission of representing and strengthening European engineers is given:
- Increase the career development of members
- Strive to be a common voice among European engineers
- Strengthening the professional identity
In its 2014 vision , FEANI defined five strategic subject areas:
- Training and continuous professional development
- Mobility (across nation states)
- Professional and ethical standards
- " Societal Engineering Issues "
- " European Engineering Culture in Global Fora "
Products
EngineerING Card
The EngineerING Card issued by FEANI is a standardized card in credit card format. Similar to the EU driving license , the data fields are numbered alphanumerically so that the content can be easily identified in all countries in which the card is recognized, regardless of the language used. The card is a tool for mobility and for validating professional experience and is funded through EU directives.
Five main features are given:
- " Completeness: education, professional experience, continued training "
- " Standardized: based on EU standards (EQF) "
- " Reliable: independent testing and recognition "
- " Flexible: through decentralized administration "
- " Voluntary "
On the front of the card are open (positions 1 to 7) the personal data (in German and English) and as a key for qualifications (position 8) alphanumerically printed in three characteristics the training and professional experience as an engineer:
- 01. Name / title
- 02. First name
- 03. Date and place of birth
- 04a. date of issue
- 04b. Date of Expiry
- 05. Association membership (= national organization of the member)
- 06. ID number
- 07. Signature
- 08. Key to qualifications
On the back (also in two languages) the keys for the qualifications entered in position 8 are broken down:
- Study (and one field per line for the) date
- A1 Bachelor / Diploma (FH)
- A2 Master / Diploma (TU / TH)
- A3 Dr.-Ing.
- work experience
- B1 company
- B2 public service
- B3 independently
- further education
- C1 seminar with certificate of attendance
- C2 seminar with final exam
- C3 advanced training with certificate
EUR ING

FEANI awards members of the national member engineering associations the title EUR ING ( English European Engineer ) in the respective national language (in Austria : European engineer ; in Germany , if not used in the English form, often as European engineer ). The prerequisite for this is that the member making the application (as a natural person ) can provide evidence of the required qualifications and professional experience.
The applications are to be sent to the national FEANI members, these are
- in Germany the German Association of Technical and Scientific Associations (DVT);
- in Austria the Association of Austrian Engineers (VÖI) and the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects (ÖIAV);
- in Switzerland the professional association Swiss Engineering .
