The Friends of the Berlin Palace is a non-profit association that has been registered in the register of associations of the Charlottenburg District Court since August 27, 1992 and is based in Berlin . The purpose of the association is to promote the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace .

Purpose of the association

This reconstruction of the city palace - the main purpose of the association according to the statutes - is to be carried out in "as closely as possible to the original of its facades and courtyards as well as important historical interiors for educational and cultural purposes". In view of the importance that the Berlin Palace has as a monument of art and architecture , the association regards reconstruction as a matter of high national and international cultural importance. Because the castle is a masterpiece of artisanal and artistic baroque architecture , a major work by Andreas Schlüter and other famous builders, and a determining dominant of the city center of Berlin and the historical cityscape of Berlin before its destruction,

The association regards the extensive reconstruction of the castle, the demolition and demolition of which became a symbol of the communist dictatorship , at the same time as a symbol for the regained German unity and the ability of democracy to restore and pass on culturally and historically valuable buildings for posterity. The promotion of education and culture is closely related to the future use of the Berlin Palace, among other things as a museum, cultural and event center.

tasks

The association's tasks are to raise funds, in particular to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace as a “ Humboldt Forum ” cultural center in accordance with the resolution of the German Bundestag on July 4, 2002. The current ones apply to advertising and accepting donations Donation guidelines of the “ Berliner Schloss-Humboldtforum ” foundation as a basis.

organs

Organs of the association are:

  • the general assembly , which is convened once a year,
  • the board, which consists of five board members and may have additional members,
  • the management, which consists of one or two people and is appointed by the board,
  • the financial advisory board, which can be formed if it appears necessary.

Obtaining and using donations

According to the resolutions of the federal government in 2007, the Berlin Palace is to be financed in two ways:

  • The state is building the core building for the Humboldt Forum (around 600 million euros).
  • Its historic castle facades are financed through donations (as of the end of 2018, 105 million euros are needed). The dome is also included in these extra costs.

The state only pays what it would have financed anyway for a building in a modern design of a comparable size.

In 2015, the Friends' Association promised the German Bundestag to finance the entire additional price of the historic palace façade compared to a modern façade to the value of 105 million euros. With the sum of 105 million euros, all costs of the historically accurate reconstruction are covered. These include the planning and artistic production of all decorative and facade elements made of sandstone as well as the entire masonry in the traditional craftsmanship of 300 years ago, the time of the expansion of the castle under Andreas Schlüter, Johann Eosander called von Göthe, and Martin Heinrich Böhme .

Your donations will be needed for the reconstruction of the three outer baroque facades of the palace, the three baroque facades of the Schlüterhof, the corner rondel on the south-east corner of the palace, the historic dome and the interior portals II, III and IV in the area of the former large palace courtyard.

Since the start of construction, donations have been flowing more abundantly, you can choose individual elements of the facade, buy them, so to speak, and thus realize what you donate specifically for.

The donations are paid to the client on a regular basis, less the association's costs. A donation clock on the association's website has been providing information in a regular countdown since the summer of 2015 about the missing amount of 105 million euros.
