Command Support School (Armed Forces)

The Command Support School (FüUS) - formerly the Telecommunications Troop School (FMTS) - is part of the Command Armed Forces Base and forms the central training facility for cadre soldiers and civil servants at all levels of the Austrian Armed Forces in the field of command support . It is located in the Starhemberg barracks in Vienna .

history

Starhemberg barracks

On November 1, 1957, the Telegraph Troop School (TelTS) was set up in the Franz Ferdinand Barracks in Vienna and was directly subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Defense . The cadre staff consisted of five officers, three non-commissioned officers and three batches under the direction of Major Otto Klein. Hofrat Julius Zandra served as a teacher of telecommunications engineering. The telecommunications equipment came from US stocks and had already been used by the B-Gendarmerie .

On November 3, 1967, the Franz Ferdinand barracks were renamed Starhemberg barracks. In 1970 the telecommunications troop school signed a partnership agreement with the Lower Austria energy supply . This was only the third partnership with a civil company in the history of the Federal Army. On August 1, 1978, was telegraph troops School in Signal Corps School (FMTS) and on 1 January 2011 renamed the Command Support School (FüUS) and the Command Support Center (FüUZ) or in the command leadership support and Cyber Defense incorporated (KdoFüU & CD). Since April 1, 2019, FüUS has been part of the command armed forces base.

  • Training and further education for all officers, NCOs and civil servants in the Federal Army in the FüU department

  • Participation in the testing of new systems and devices in the field of information and communication technology and electronic warfare

Telecommunications equipment in the armed forces

  • Integrated telecommunications structure IFMIN (digital communications network for the automatic switching and transmission of various telecommunications services)
  • Troop radio system "CONRAD" (COmbat Net RADio)
  • Radio telex set MFF-4-0 (enables the brigades to have radio communication with their higher-level commanders)
  • Telephone exchange set KTF-3-0 (enables radio communication within battalions)
  • Directional connection sets VFF-3-0 and VFF-4-0 (integrate command levels into the Austrian-wide command network)
  • Backpack radio device AN / PRC-77 (ensures the radio connection between groups, trains and companies)
  • Portable shortwave system PRC 2200 (enables the battalions to have radio communications with their commanders)
  • Character transmission device with printer XMP-800 (after connection to a radio device it is used to transmit short written messages at high transmission speed)
  • Two-way radios KFF-31-0, KFF-32-0 and KFF-33-0 (ensure the connection within mechanized units and companies of the armored forces)
  • Radio communication set KFF-19-0 (enables radio communication within a battalion)
  • Handheld radio TFF- 41-0 (radio with dual network operation)
  • Handheld radio TFF-39-0 (mainly used as special equipment)
  • Handheld radio TFF-21-0 (radio link over short distances)

The training planning and quality management unit is responsible for the planning and ongoing coordination of all training projects at the management support school.

The basic department is the central point of contact for the development and provision of basic knowledge of management support. This knowledge is documented and made available to the command support force (telecommunications force), the course participants, the teaching staff, the Federal Ministry for National Defense, ICT specialists and authorities for all military ICT matters.

The teaching department is responsible for the implementation of all courses, courses and seminars at the management support school. The teaching department is divided into five teaching groups:

  • Teaching Group 1 - Leadership Support and Information Technology
  • Lesson group 2 - Electronic warfare
  • Teaching group 3 - Digital switching and transmission systems
  • Teaching group 4 - Conducted transmission systems
  • Teaching group 5 - Mobile information transmission systems

Service operations and training support is the organizational element with the tasks of supply management and implementation, the motor vehicle system including the workshop and all tasks in the context of training support.

Others

  • The command support school already had its own troop newspaper "FMTS forum" (now FüUS forum) as a telecommunications troop school.
  • Since 1998 there has been a telecommunications museum in the telecommunications troop school with exhibits, photos, regulations and documentation from the time of the First World War to the present day.
  • Over 1000 course participants attend the school every year, where they are trained in around 65 courses.
