history
1962-1983
IT departments in the central office of the Federal Ministry for National Defense (BMLV)
In the early sixties of the 20th century, the first fundamental considerations in the Federal Ministry for National Defense to use electronic data processing to support the administration.
On October 1, 1962, the basis for the use of EDP in the armed forces was created with the creation of a main EDP department in the then organizational department of the BMLV. Until 1983 the tasks of electronic data processing for the armed forces were carried out in the independent IT department in the IT, telecommunications and electronics department of the BMLV. This department had grown over the years to over 100 employees, and in 1982 the preparatory work for a spin-off from the central office began.
1983-2002
Army Data Processing Office (HDVA)
These reorganization considerations led to the establishment of the Army Data Processing Office, which took effect on June 1, 1983, as a subordinate department of the Federal Ministry of Defense. With effect from March 1, 2001, the employees of the computer centers of the military command were transferred to the HDVA in the area of user support. In March 2002, the employees of the IT parts of the Army Construction Administration were integrated into the development area of the HDVA.

At the same time, an ICT directorate was set up in the armaments staff of the central office of the BMLV and the commander of the KdoFüU was assigned to head this ICT directorate. In the course of the recent reorganization of the central office of the BMLVS in 2008, the ICT directorate was closed. At the same time, the ICT systems and ICT purchasing departments were transferred to the central office. With this, the KdoFüU lost its integration into the central office and from June 1, 2008 it was an office directly subordinate to Section III / BMLVS.
