Hesserkaserne
The Hesserkaserne (officially Feldmarschall Hess command building ) is a barracks of the Federal Army in St. Pölten at Schießstattring 8-10. The facility, named after Heinrich Freiherr von Heß , is now the seat of the Lower Austria military command .
history
Today's Hesserkaserne was created in 1957 from the amalgamation of three former Landwehr barracks . The Franz-Josephs-Kaserne, built in 1890, and the Rainerkaserne, built two years later, are located on Schießstattring, while the Eugenkaserne from 1900 is on the intersecting Hessstrasse.
Franz Joseph Barracks
The construction of the Franz-Josephs-Kaserne was put out to tender in 1889, including all road and canal works, for around 135,000 guilders , the planned completion date was September 15, 1890. It was built according to the plans of civil engineer Egger under the execution of Erwin Rieger. The three-storey building in the late historical style is structured with side and central projections with plastic rustication.
Rainer barracks
To the north of the Franz-Josephs-Kaserne stands the Rainerkaserne, built in 1892 according to plans by Heinrich Wohlmeyer . The two-wing, three-storey building in the style of Romanesque historicism has tower-like shapes on the sides and in the middle with pilaster strips, arched frieze and battlements.
Eugene Barracks
To the west of the Rainer Barracks, the Eugene Barracks in Heßstrasse was built in 1900 according to plans by R. Frauenfeld. The three-story building with simple side elevations. Military symbols are shown on two central axes with a triangular pediment with reliefs.
