The five-spot ladybird ( Coccinella quinquepunctata ) is a beetle from the ladybird family (Coccinellidae).
features
The beetles are about three to five millimeters long and have an oval body. Their wings are red and each have a large black point in the middle and a smaller one further back. In addition, there is a black point on the scutellum , which is bordered by two white spots at the front. It seldom happens that the large dots merge with that of the label. The beetles are smaller than the seven-spotted ladybug , but very similar to it.
Occurrence
The beetles are found all over the Palearctic and also in the far north. They can be found in wet and dry areas, for example on the banks of water and on dry grass . The adults overwinter in the litter.
food
The beetles and larvae of the five-spotted ladybird feed on aphids .
