The Füniküler Kabataş – Taksim , or F1 for short , is an underground funicular railway ( Turkish füniküler from French funiculaire ) in the European part of the Turkish city of Istanbul . It was put into operation on June 30, 2006. Construction work began on September 27, 2003. The funicular system comes from the Austrian company Doppelmayr / Garaventa . The operator is the urban Istanbul public transport company İstanbul Ulaşım .

The funicular connects the Kabataş valley station on the Bosporus with the mountain station on Taksim Square in the Beyoğlu district . The route length is 558.49 m with a height difference of 74.95 m between the two stations. The maximum gradient is 22.19 percent. The travel time is 110 seconds. One train can carry 375 passengers . The transport capacity is 7500 people per hour.

At the Taksim station there is a transition to the metro to 4. Levent, the historic Taksim- Tünel tram ( Nostaljik Tramvay ) and numerous bus routes. At the Kabataş station there is a connection to the tram ( Çağdaş Tramvay ) in the direction of Sirkeci –Aksaray – Zeytinburnu – Bağcılar station, to Bosporus ferries and some bus routes.
