Remarks

The work was written in the summer of 1858 during the composer's annual trip to Russia. The march was dedicated to Prince Alexander Ivanovich Baryatinsky , the commander of a regiment whose officers liked to attend Johann Strauss' concerts in Pavlovsk. Musically, the waltz Juristenball-Tänze (Op. 177), which is also very popular in Russia, is quoted in the march . Outside of Russia, this march was rarely performed. Two performances in Vienna at the end of 1858 are documented. After that the march disappeared from the repertoire of the Strauss-Kapelle.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 24 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
