F-Spot is a free software for the management of photos for the GNOME has been developed desktop. The program was released under the GNU GP license . The program belonged together with Eye of GNOME from version 10.04 to the standard software of Ubuntu and replaced the image processing software GIMP . With Ubuntu 10.10, F-Spot was replaced there by Shotwell in the standard installation, although F-Spot could still be installed later.

In the Linux distribution Fedora it was part of the standard installation up to version 13.

Functions

F-Spot combines the user interface of a standard image browser with additional functions such as marking images with keywords, displaying Exif and XMP information and image processing. With the help of gPhoto photographs can be imported from the digital camera. Burning photo CDs is also possible. The program provides its own library for image management. From there, photos can be uploaded to the Internet, e.g. B. to Flickr , Picasa web albums etc.

Supported formats

The program supports common image file formats such as JPEG , PNG , TIFF , DNG and various manufacturer-specific RAW formats (CR2, PEF, ORF, SRF, CRW, MRW and RAF). Furthermore, GIF , SVG and PPM supports. RAW files cannot currently be edited with F-Spot.

It is possible to crop or rotate images, remove red eyes and color balance, as well as brightness and white balance, color shading as well as saturation and contrast adjustment.

technology

F-Spot was written in the C # programming language and using the Mono framework . Ettore Perazzoli started programming F-Spot; Larry Ewing is now in charge of the project.
