František Antonín Brabec (born November 30, 1954 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech cameraman , film director and screenwriter .

biography

František Antonín Brabec attended the Gymnázium Jana Nerudy from 1970 to 1974 and won several photo competitions during this time. From 1975 to 1981 he studied at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts . He then worked from 1982 to 1992 as a camera assistant at the Barrandov Film Studios . He made his debut as a cameraman for a feature film with the comedy film Volná noha , released in 1989 and directed by Július Matula . Brabec was nominated six times for the Czech film award Český lev for Best Cinematography , and received it for his work on Die Fahrt (1995), Král Ubu (1997) and Kytice (2001). With the literary film adaptation of Kral Ubu , Brabec debuted as a screenwriter and cameraman for a feature film.

Brabec is married to the costume designer Jaroslava Pecharová .
