FAOSA
FAOSA was a Mexican eyewear manufacturer whose products were worn by numerous celebrities.
history
In 1925, Jose Cuttler opened the Fabrica de armazonas opticos South America (German: Factory for Glasses Frames South America , FAOSA for short) in Mexico City , which made the characteristic glasses frames with wide, black frames from cellulose nitrate . Later the racks were made from less flammable cellulose . Own sales outlets were set up in Mexico City and Miami . In the 1950s, 115 employees produced 15,000 frames a day, largely by hand. The most famous wearer of FAOSA glasses at that time was the musician Buddy Holly , for whom the Zafiro model became a trademark. In 1961, Jose's son Luis took over the company and had to face increasing competition, especially from Asia and Europe. FAOSA also manufactured the official key rings for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. Operations ceased in the 1970s.
