Lists on the subject |
The FARA 83 is an Argentine assault rifle made by FMAP .
history
In the early 1980s, FMAP was instructed by the DGFM to develop a 5.56 × 45 mm NATO assault rifle to replace the aging FMAP FSL - a licensed version of the FN FAL - in the Argentine armed forces . Development was completed in 1983, but it took until 1986 for the rifles to be produced and delivered. After only about 1200 rifles were delivered, production was stopped again because the Falklands War drained Argentina financially. After the fall of the military junta , production of the FARA 83 slowly resumed until it was finally stopped in 1990. The original goal of completely replacing the FMAP FSL was not achieved; FARA 83 has found little use within the Argentine armed forces.
technology
The FARA 83 is a gas pressure charger with a rotating head lock . The weapon is also equipped with a valve to fire rifle grenades . The trigger group offers the shooter the choice between single fire and continuous fire. The shaft is made of polymers and is foldable.
