In 1963 the Ferrovie autolinee regionali ticinesi (FART) received two electric articulated railcars of the type ABDe 6/6 (six-axle railcars with 1st class, 2nd class and baggage compartment). In terms of construction, they were based on the FART-SSIF ABe 8/8 delivered four years earlier , but were one element shorter. The two box elements are supported in the middle on a Jakobs bogie .
Until the Be 4/8 41-42 was delivered, the two vehicles mainly ran the Locarno-Camedo regional trains. Since then they have been used as reserve railcars, also for the international trains to Domodossola.
The railcars were manufactured by Schindler Waggon in Pratteln, the electrical equipment was supplied by the BBC subsidiary Tecnomasio Italiano Brown Boveri (TIBB).
The railcars were labeled as ABFe 6/6 on delivery. This may be due to the fact that at the time of the order the letter F for the luggage compartment was still valid in the designation , but at the time of delivery D would have been officially correct. However, the two railcars still drove undisturbed as ABFe through Centovalli for years. Due to their relationship with the railcars 21–24 and 33–35, they have occasionally been incorrectly referred to as ABe 6/6 in magazines.
