The DE M4c.500 series are two-part narrow - gauge diesel multiple units with gear drive from Ferrovie della Calabria (FC) in southern Italy . The vehicles manufactured by Stadler Rail operate on the Catanzaro Città – Catanzaro Lido route .

In 2009 and 2010, the Swiss gear specialist Stadler Rail delivered five two-part diesel-electric multiple units with combined gear and adhesion drives at a price of 22 million euros. The multiple units with the designation DE M4c.501–505 consist of two closely coupled, air-conditioned multiple units with a total of 104 seats and are equipped with a passenger information system. Part of the passenger compartment is low-floor , which makes it easier for travelers to get on and off. On the rack section, the multiple units are allowed to run at a speed of 22 km / h. Each part of the train is equipped with a six-cylinder Cummins diesel engine with an output of 395 kW. Two compositions can run under multiple control .
