FIGO classification
The FIGO classification is a system proposed by the Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d'Obstétrique (FIGO) for classifying gynecological tumors . It is used in gynecology alongside the TNM classification of malignant tumors.
The FIGO stages are defined as follows:
stage | Finding |
Stage 0 | Carcinoma in situ |
Stage I. | Tumor limited to the original organ |
Stage II | The tumor has spread to the adjacent tissue |
Stage III | Expansion to the next organ |
Stage IV | Invasion of an adjacent organ, distant metastases |
In the case of the various gynecological tumors, the FIGO stages are then subdivided a little more finely and specific classification criteria are established.
