The FK Mesto Prievidza is a former Slovak football club from Prievidza . It was founded in 1918 as PAC Prievidza. Between 1993 and 2000 Prievidza played in the highest Slovak division, the Corgoň liga . In March 2010 the club withdrew the men's team from the Slovak second division due to financial difficulties.

Club history

The club drew national attention for the first time when it rose in 1972 under the name Baník Prievidza in the nationwide second Czechoslovakian league. In the 1973/74 season, Baník missed promotion to the first division by only two points, and in 1974/75 the team was fourth. Two years later, Prievidza was relegated to the 3rd division, and was promoted to the now split 2nd division in 1981. In 1990 Prievidza could not hold the class again, but managed to get promoted again immediately.

In the last joint Czechoslovak season 1992/93 Baník Prievidza qualified by a fourth place in the Slovak group of the 2nd division (1st SNFL) for the new 1st Slovak league.

In the first season Prievidza could only hold the class because of the better direct comparison against the bottom of the table, FC Nitra , with equal points . 1994/95 the club renamed MFK Prievidza was ninth in the twelve-team league. In the following season, Prievidza did not rise from the bottom only because the league was expanded by four to 16 teams. With eighth place in the 1996/97 season, Prievidza achieved the best result in the club's history.

In the years to come, things went steeply downhill. After a twelfth and a 14th place Prievidza, which had taken its old name Baník again, 1999/2000 table bottom and was relegated to the 2nd division. The team was passed through to the 3rd division, from which they were able to rise again in 2003. In 2003, Baník merged with MŠK TOPVAR - Horná Nitra Topoľčany and formed the HFK Prievidza.

The HFK could not hold the class in 2005 and was relegated to the 3rd division. In the summer of 2006 there was a reorganization of the Slovak league system. The top division, the Corgoň liga , was followed by the second division first division and the two-part third division second division. The HFK Prievidza missed the qualification for the 2nd league západ by one rank . However, since FC Družstevník Báč waived their right to start for financial reasons, the HFK Prievidza moved up.

In the summer of 2007, the HFK Prievidza returned to the second Slovak division, the first division . For the 2008/09 season, the club was renamed FK Mesto Prievidza. In March 2010, the club announced the withdrawal from gaming operations due to financial difficulties.
