The FNM 251-262 were a group of tank locomotives from Ferrovie Nord Milano (FNM) that were designed for express trains.

history

The first six machines were delivered by the Belgian Couillet in 1895-96 and were given the numbers 251 to 256. They were used on express trains.

In 1903 the FNM ordered three more machines (257 to 259) from CEMSA in Saronno and in 1906 another three (260 to 262) from Henschel & Sohn .

In the 1930s, the locomotives were taken out of service because of the commissioning of more modern designs and the first electrification of the network. Eight pieces were soon scrapped, another three came to the Società Anonima per la Ferrovia Monza-Molteno-Oggiono (MMO), where they got the numbers 21 to 23 and were used on the Monza-Molteno railway .

In 1954 the MMO was taken over by the state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato (FS). All of the MMO's steam locomotives were formally used in Group 850, even though they were no longer in use. The 21 to 23 were therefore phased out 850.021-023 and shortly thereafter.

The only surviving machine, the 850.022, is now in the National Railway Museum in Pietrarsa near Naples .
