The Monza – Molteno line is a branch line in Italy . It connects the city of Monza with the town of Molteno on the Como – Lecco railway line and is used by regional trains from Milan –Monza – Molteno– Lecco .

history

In 1887 a committee headed by the small town of Besana proposed the construction of a local railway through the Brianza hills north of Milan . After several financial and technical problems, construction did not begin until 1907. The line was opened on October 14, 1911 and operated by Ferrovie della Brianza Centrale AG (FBC).

In 1919 the FBC was replaced by the Società per la Ferrovia Monza-Molteno-Oggiono (MMO) due to financial difficulties . However, this company also had numerous problems, so that in 1935 a provisional state company was introduced. The line has been operated directly by the Ferrovie dello Stato since January 1, 1954. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were proposals to shut down the line, but it survived and in the 1980s suburban trains Milan – Lecco were introduced.

Today the trains run every hour. In future, they will run every half hour and will be referred to as the S7 line of the Milan S-Bahn .

Renate – Romanò Fornaci branch

In 1914 a short branch line was built from the Renate train station to the Romanò brickworks park in the municipality of Briosco . The route was mostly used for freight traffic, but also for passenger traffic, and was closed in 1931.
