Formosat (also ROCSat - Republic Of China Satellite; proper spelling FORMOSAT) is the name of a Taiwanese - US American program for earth observation satellites . In the USA it is called Cosmic (Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate; proper spelling COSMIC).

  • On January 16, 1999 Formosat-1 ( called ROCSat-1 until 2004 ) reached its orbit.
  • The Formosat-2 satellite was successfully launched in May 2004 . It was decommissioned on August 19, 2016.
  • On April 15, 2006, all 6 satellites of the Formosat 3 series were successfully placed in space.
  • On August 24, 2017, the Formosat-5 satellite was successfully launched with a Falcon-9 rocket.
  • Formosat-6 was a project for microsatellites weighing 50 kg, but this was abandoned.
  • Formosat-7 or Cosmic-2 is a constellation of six satellites. These were successfully launched on June 25, 2019 by a Falcon Heavy as part of the STP-2 mission in transfer orbits at an altitude of 714–721 km.
