The FSV 1921 Brandis is a football club in the northern Saxon town of Brandis . In 2007 it had 250 members and uses the municipal sports field "Friendship".

historical development

The club traces its origins back to the "Gymnastics Club for Brandis and Surroundings" founded in 1904. In 1921 the gymnastics club set up a soccer division. With the help of club members and Brandis sports fans, the “Friendship” sports field was completed in 1931. In 1945 the gymnastics club was dissolved as part of the general ban on sports clubs. After sports traffic in the Soviet occupation zone was reorganized in the form of company sports associations , the Brandis-based silicate plant FEMA founded the BSG Chemie Brandis for its employees. In the course of 1953 the name was changed to BSG Stahl Brandis. In addition to the largest section, football, sections for table tennis and canoeing have also been set up.

In 1990 the BSG lost the support of its sponsoring company FEMA due to the political economic changes . As a result, BSG members founded the registered association TSV Rot-Weiß 90 Brandis on July 20, 1990 . On June 27, 1997, the football division of TSV disbanded, and the football teams joined the FSV 1921 Brandis, which was founded on May 29, 1997.

In 2009 the FSV 1921 Brandis was mentioned in numerous nationwide media after the left-wing fans of the guests were targeted with iron bars by around 50 right-wing extremists from the Leipzig region at a home game against Roter Stern Leipzig in October 2009 .

Development of the sport of football

Until its dissolution, TV Brandis only played a subordinate regional role in football. The BSG Chemie's soccer team started in the district class in 1951. She finished the season as district champion and won the promotion game to the district class against Stahl Roßwein. In 1955, BSG Stahl Brandis was promoted to what was then the fourth-class district league in Leipzig . Until 1962, relegation could always be ensured, but then the BSG had to return to the district class, to which they belonged between 1952 and 1990 a total of 24 seasons. 1964 succeeded again the promotion to the meanwhile third class district league, this time for five years. In 1973/74 they played again for a year in the district league and in 1984 they even went down to the district league Wurzen, where, however, they returned to the district class immediately.

In 1954 and 1955, Stahl Brandis had qualified for the GDR-wide FDGB soccer cup competition , but did not get beyond the first round. In 1954 the opponent was called Stahl Freital . Against the second division, Brandis was able to achieve a 2-2 at home after extra time, but the replay in Freital was lost 3-2. In 1956 Brandis had to compete against Stahl Riesa from the third-class II. GDR league and was immediately eliminated from the competition after a 2-0 defeat at home.

The TSV Rot-Weiß started in the DFB game operation in 1990 in the fourth-class district league Leipzig. After two years, the club was relegated to the 6th division district class. The FSV rose to the eight-class district league, rose again in 2005 for two years in the district league and has played in the district league since 2007 (9th division since 2008). In 2008 the FSV competed with two men's and five youth teams.
