The E.636 series is an Italian electric locomotive series .

history

Between 1940 and 1962 a total of 469 E.636 units were purchased. This series was designed for passenger and freight train service. The design with a two-part locomotive body and the Bo'Bo'Bo ' wheel arrangement proved itself so well that this axis arrangement was established as the standard for the Italian State Railways. With the exception of the E.444 , the entire fleet of electromechanical locomotives of the Italian state railways was based on the basic scheme of the E.636. The last successor was the E.656 series , which was delivered until 1989.

E.636 284, called "Camilla", was damaged in an accident in 1988 and rebuilt with a different front section.
