The Faber Lotto Service was founded in 1970 by Norman Faber (* 1945). Faber became known primarily through direct marketing measures , sponsoring and TV spots. Faber was the main sponsor of VfL Bochum from 1992 up to and including the 2001/2002 season .

The company advertised with high profits through the so-called "high quota game". For this purpose, those lottery series should be typed that are not typed by any other lottery player or at least as few as possible. It has not been scientifically proven that this goal could be achieved with the methods practiced by Faber. The company also promised a high probability of winning through syndicates.

In Internet Faber Lotto service switched from 2007 to late 2008, the state lottery 6 out of 49 . After the State Treaty on Gambling , which was criticized by Norman Faber with full-page newspaper advertisements, an online lottery service was no longer permitted. On January 1, 2009, Faber stopped the internet brokerage after the Federal Constitutional Court, with its decision of December 17, 2008 (Az. 1 BvR 3409/08), did not accept a constitutional complaint from Faber Lotto-Service because it had no prospect of success , since a violation of fundamental rights and rights equivalent to fundamental rights is not evident. In its judgment of September 8, 2010, the European Court of Justice lifted the sports betting monopoly for state providers anchored in the current State Treaty on gaming.

In 1992 the company had a turnover of 300 million D-Marks and had 150 employees. In its prime, Faber achieved sales of 300 million euros. After the revision of the State Treaty on Gaming in 2008, the company's sales fell by more than 80 percent. In 2008 the company generated only 43.25 million euros, in 2009 only 29.17 million euros.

In 2011 the company sued the state of North Rhine-Westphalia against the requirements of the State Treaty on Gaming and won. After the State Treaty on Gaming came into force in July 2012, the company was granted permission to act as a gaming broker on the Internet.
