Fabula (from Latin fabula 'history' ) is a multilingual specialist journal that publishes articles, conference reports and reviews in German, English and French. It is the leading organ of international comparative narrative research and focuses on European narratives (such as fairy tales, sagas and fables) and the European sphere of influence overseas. The subtitle is: Journal for Narrative Research. Journal of Folktale Studies. Revue d'Etudes sur le Conte Populaire .

The magazine Fabula has been published every six months by Verlag Walter de Gruyter in Berlin since 1957 and is also available as an online edition (partly for a fee). It was founded by Kurt Ranke and is currently being edited by Brigitte Bönisch-Brednich , Simone Stiefbold and Harm-Peer Zimmermann .

Fabula is an organ of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR).

1959–1970 the sub -series Supplement-Series A, Texts appeared .
