Fabula Aetatis (also just FABULA or FABULA - Drum'n'Pipes) is a German music group founded in 1995, which can be assigned to the bagpipe rock style , therefore mainly playing strongly rhythmic music on bagpipes and percussion. In contrast to other bands of this genre, Fabula is characterized by influences from Scottish and Breton playing styles.

Band history

FABULA in the four-man team in Weinheim 2008

The group was originally founded in 1995 as "FABULA AETATIS" by Briantanus and Bernartius van Troethhoven. The band, which initially only made street music, was soon joined by the drummer El Sabio de Moya. In this form, the typical “Fabula style” developed and the band played on the first medieval markets. When El Sabio left in 2000, his drummer friend Asmon stepped in for him; this combination was played for the next two years.

In 2002 Fabula played some gigs with Wolgemut under the project "Phat Wolgemut".

At the end of 2002 the band split up for the time being. Bernatius founded the "Duo Obscurum", Briantanus and Asmon together with Steffano di Panoptico von Wolgemut, as well as Brandan, Donar von Avignon and Strahli, who had left Corvus Corax , finally founded Cultus Ferox . During this time, a number of CDs were made, including Brandan and Briantanus on the Christmas CD "Christmas dances out of the bag".

Three years later, at the end of 2005, Briantanus and Asmon left Cultus Ferox again and, together with Stevo'Klat, brought FABULA back to life. Soon after, the CD Panta Rhei was released and Fabula was once again on the way to medieval markets, occasionally supported by El Sabio - the group performed in this combination in 2007 as part of the Interceltic Folk Festival in Hofheim am Taunus.

In 2008 the new Fabula CD, Cult ~ ur, was finally released. In addition to the usual instruments, Briantanus also played flutes and smallpipes, and Thomas Zöller was also able to be won as a guest musician, who also recorded smallpipes and border pipes and thus contributed to a new sound. In the same year Robert Yangens joined the band, who also plays smallpipes in addition to the new German bagpipe. In this combination, the new project “La Douleur” was started, which makes much quieter baroque music on smallpipes, French bagpipes, petite organ and percussion.

In the meantime, the musicians from Fabula in their various bands have played over 300 medieval markets and over 100 concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Denmark and Sweden.
