Facies is a geological journal. In it "works are published that deal with the interpretation of fossil and modern ecosystems and carbonate deposits by means of facies analysis in the broadest sense". In particular, questions of paleobiology , paleoecology , basin evolution and sedimentology are addressed.

The first issue appeared in December 1979. Initially, the magazine appeared annually, later every six months and from 2006 quarterly. It is published by the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , formerly by the local Institute for Paleontology and since 2003 by the Geocenter North Bavaria.
