Fadila Laanan (born July 29, 1967 in Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek ) is a Belgian politician. Since July 16, 2009 she has been Minister for Culture, Audiovisual Media, Health and Equal Opportunities in the Government of the French Community of Belgium .

Life

Laanan was born on July 29, 1967 to a married couple who had emigrated from Morocco . She grew up with her six siblings in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean / Sint-Jans-Molenbeek . After attending school in Molenbeek and Forest / Vorst , she studied law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles . She specialized in public law and administrative law and graduated in 1993 with a licentiate . At the age of 18, Fadila Laanan became involved in the youth club Jeunesse maghrébine and became its president.

In 1993 Laanan joined the Parti Socialiste (PS). In the same year she became a consultant in the cabinet of the Minister for Culture, Sport and Budget Éric Tomas and from 1995 to 1997 she worked as a consultant in the cabinet of the Minister for Culture and Permanent Education Charles Picqué . In the elections to the Brussels regional parliament in 1995 Laanan ran, but missed the election victory by 50 votes. From 1997 to 2001, Laanan served as an advisor to the Superior Council for Audiovisual Media.

In 2000 she was elected to the council of Anderlecht in the local elections and was appointed head of the PS group in the police council of the Midi-Zone (Anderlecht, Forest / Vorst, Saint-Gilles / Sint-Gillis ). In 2003 she failed as a candidate in the Senate elections and in 2004 as an additional candidate in the European elections . In the same year she was elected to the Brussels regional parliament and appointed Minister for Culture, Audiovisual Media and Youth in the Government of the French Community of Belgium .

In October 2006 Laanan was re-elected to the Anderlecht municipal council and the police council. In 2007 she failed again in the Senate elections. In the government of the French Community, her responsibilities in the youth field were taken over by Marc Tarabella , who became Minister in place of Claude Eerdeken . In 2009 she was re-elected in the Brussels regional elections and on July 16, 2009, she was appointed Minister for Culture, Audiovisual, Health and Equal Opportunities in the Government of the French Community of Belgium.

Laanan is married and has two children.
