The Fadnoun Plateau (also called Plateau Fadnoun ) is a plateau in the southern Algerian province of Illizi .

The Fadnoun Plateau, which is mainly made up of Paleozoic sandstones, is located in the northern part of the Tassili n'Ajjer Mountains. With an area of about 9400 km², it has a general gradient to the north. The highest peaks are in the south at a maximum of 1590 m above sea level. Towards the north, the plateau gradually slopes down to about 600 m. The plateau extends over about 120 km in the west-east direction, the north-south extent is around 90 km.

In the north, the Fadnoun plateau is bounded by Erg Issaouane . In the east it extends to the Libyan border at Tarat . To the east and south there are steep breaks in landscapes up to 400 meters lower. The border to the Tamelrik plateau to the west forms the dry valley of the Oued Tadjeradjeri .

The plateau is criss-crossed by numerous dry valleys, some of them gorge-like, deepened by up to 300 meters, all of which drain to the north. Above all, the Oued Djerat , known for its Neolithic rock engravings, should be mentioned here.

The hostile plateau is largely uninhabited and has only a few very small settlements in the dry valleys. The total number of residents should not exceed 1000 people. Isolated Gueltas are trained.

Thousands of relics of Neolithic cultures are scattered over the entire plateau, above all tumulus, but also many so-called keyhole graves.

Immediately north of the plateau is the provincial capital Illizi . From here a difficult track used to lead over the Fadnoun plateau to Bordj El Haouas and on to Djanet . The road to Djanet (RN3) has been paved since around 2000, which makes the journey there very easy. In addition, there are no asphalt roads and only a few slopes to the remote settlements.
