Illizi ( Arabic اليزي, DMG Illizi , Kabyle ⵉⵍⵍⵉⵣⵉ Illizi ) than municipality with around 17,000 inhabitants capital of the province of Illizi in southeastern Algeria .

As an urban settlement, Illizi is located at about 568 m above sea level, about 100 km west of the border with Libya and 1250 km south-southeast of Algiers . The southern part of the communal territory includes the center of the Tassili n'Ajjer National Park , namely the valley of the Oued Djerat with the rock paintings found there . In the north lies the sandy desert of Erg Issaouane . Some dunes on the northern outskirts tower over the residential areas by more than 50 meters.

In addition to the main town Illizi, the commune also consists of the villages Afara, Imehrou, Oued Semen, Aharhar, Tarat, Tamadjert and Fadnoune .

In terms of traffic, Illizi is opened up by the national road 3 , which connects the north-east of Algeria near Constantine with the south-east just before the border with Niger and leads through the aforementioned national park. During the French colonial rule the city was called Fort Polignac.
