Flag waving
The flag waving (also flag-waving or flags game , but not flags blow ) is an old people's sport , short for the people and with a heavy handle provided flags enable various artistic vibrations throw up flags and catch it again. In contrast to the flag waving, when the flag is raised, it is not desirable for the flag to leave the hand, but rather to be brought as close as possible to the body. Flags are also longer (the flagpole or the handle is about as long as the cloth area), and the cloth is larger than that of swing flags, where the handle is only about 30 to 40 cm long.
history
Origins
The background to the flag waving is that the "swivel" stood on the city walls and, when used correctly, caused noises with their flags that sounded like gunshots and were intended to deter the approaching enemy.
The flag , on the other hand, has a clerical background: it is supposed to shackle St. Represent Sebastian (in the order head, arm, hands, wrists, core, both legs, right leg, left leg, wrap up).
Developments since the end of the 17th century
Flag waving had gone out of fashion at the end of the 17th century, and remnants were still preserved in Switzerland .
Flag waving since the turn of the millennium
With the new attractiveness of the Middle Ages from the 2000s onwards, many groups throughout Europe have organized themselves again, which perform flag waving at rifle festivals , club festivals, city festivals, but also at medieval markets and jousting games . For this music is played, typically from alphorn players , marching bands and drum corps .
More recently, cross-border competitions have developed, for example the world championship in flag throwing .
