The driving instructor insurance was founded in January 1952 on the initiative of the former federal states of Württemberg-Baden and Württemberg-Hohenzollern from the profession of driving instructor as an insurance association of the driving instructors aG . As early as 1950, the Association of Driving Instructors Württemberg-Baden-Hohenzollern decided to found the insurance association and an application was made to the Württemberg-Baden Ministry of Finance there. The name was soon changed to its current name. Less than 20 years after it was founded, the specialized insurance association already had more than 10,000 members, and in the mid-1990s premium income rose to over 100 million German marks for the first time .

In addition to driving instructors, the driving instructor insurance also insures employees involved in vehicle monitoring, vehicle experts and test engineers, qualified professional drivers and family members.
