Faiyaz Khan (singer, 1886)
Faiyaz Khan (* 1886 in Agra ; † November 5, 1950 in Baroda ) was an Indian singer of classical Hindustan music and composer .
Khan came from a family of musicians who traced their origins back to Sujaan Khan , a singer at the court of the Great Mogul Akbar . Since his father died before he was born, he grew up with his grandfather Ghulam Abbas Khan , who introduced him to the Agra Gharana together with his brother Kallan Khan . He was also a student of Meboob Khan , his future father-in-law. He became one of the most respected classical singers in India and from 1912 was a singer at the court of Sayaji Rao Gaikwad , the Maharajah of Baroda. He became known throughout India through radio appearances. He has received honorary titles such as Gyan Ratna (Jewel of Knowledge) and Aftab-e-Mousiqui (Sun of Music) and most recently was President of the All India Society for Contemporary Music . His many students include Vilayat Hussain , Khadim Hussain , Latafat Hussain , Sharafat Hussain , Dinkar Kaikini , Jyotsna Bhole , KGGinde , SCR Bhat , Dinkar Kaikini, Lalith Rao , MR Gautam , Dilip Chandra Vedi , Shrikrishna Narayan Ratanjankar , Sohan Singh and Asad Ali Khan . As a composer of bandishes (a melody part of a sung raga ) he emerged under the name Prem Piya .
