The Fajara Golf Course is a golf course in the West African state of Gambia in Bakau - Fajara and is operated by the Fajara Club .

The par -69 course is located right on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and on the waters of Kotu . It measures around 4700 meters on mostly sandy ground. Due to the irrigation situation, lawns have been largely dispensed with; the individual lanes are surrounded by bushes typical of the West African coastal landscape. In the southern area on the bank, the Kotu is overgrown with mangroves. One lane must be played towards the opposite bank or the so-called "Devils Island" . The Fajara Golf Course is the larger and older of the two courses (the other is the 18-hole course of the Kololi Beach Club) for golf in Gambia. The course was built in 1972 to replace the former golf course at Denton Bridge , plans for this have been drawn up since the late 1950s.

Tournaments

The Gambian International Golf Championship ( Baby Mariam Jammeh Golf Tournament ) was held in February 2011 and was announced for the winner with US $ 5000 in prize money.

In December 2011 the Gambia Open and Pro Am took place.
