The Kotu (spelling variant: Koto ), also rarely Sandu , is a small river in the West African state of Gambia . The Kotu Point , a small cape south of the mouth , and the Kotu Beach north of the mouth refers to these waters. The area is also known as the district of the same name Kotu . There are several hotels on Kotu Beach.
geography
The Kotu has its source in the West Coast region , near Sukuta and Serekunda , the largest city in Gambia. From there it flows with a length of 6.5 kilometers first in a northerly direction until it flows westwards, south of Fajara with a width of about 60 meters into the Atlantic Ocean .
The kotu only has its full length during the rainy season . In the dry season , the river bed west of Serekunda dried up.
Nature and tourism
Numerous birds can be found in the natural area of the estuary. Since the river flows into the middle of the hotel resort of the same name, tourists have the opportunity to experience the bird world within a small mangrove forest without having to go deep inland.
