Falko Steinbach (* 1957 in Aachen ) is a German pianist and composer.

biography

Steinbach grew up in Leverkusen and Bergisch Gladbach . He gave his first public concert at the age of twelve and was later a young student at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne . Here Steinbach completed his studies under Tiny Wirtz with a concert exam and also graduated in theory and composition, before completing his studies with a DAAD scholarship at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama . Further teachers were Tatjana Nikolajewa and Peter Feuchtwanger for solo piano and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau for song accompaniment.

Steinbach founded the music festival Streams for New Music in Brauweiler, the Verein für Neue Musik Klang Köln , and the Lindlar Piano Festival in the Bergisches Land. After teaching piano at the University of Cologne between 1989 and 1999 , he accepted an appointment as piano professor and head of the piano performance department at the University of New Mexico in the USA. His repertoire covers a wide spectrum with works from Bach to contemporary music. As a Steinway artist he recorded 16 CDs. His catalog raisonné as a composer includes well over 50 compositions for church music, chamber music and piano music, as well as an opera. An exceptional number of reviews, articles, awards and two doctoral theses on his work reflect his artistic, humanitarian and educational merits.

Steinbach plays and teaches at many international festivals in America, Asia and Europe.
