Falns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Falns is a four-axle open bulk goods wagon that is used by numerous European railway companies . The wagons can be used in a variety of ways, especially for transporting bulk goods that are not sensitive to moisture, and were acquired by the then German Federal Railroad from 1987 onwards .

Falns wagons have two flaps on each side of the wagon that can be opened for unloading. The loaded bulk material then falls out downwards with the help of gravity . The flaps can be opened in different ways:

  • mechanically; by operating a handwheel
  • pneumatic; with compressed air cylinders, supplied by a locomotive or stationary compressed air generation
  • hydraulic; with hydraulic cylinders, the necessary pressure is generated while driving with a wheelset hydraulic pump
