The Fanfarenzug Greiz in 1964 on the initiative of the teacher Eberhard Andreä in Greiz founded.

In 1969 the fanfare parade first took part in the GDR gymnastics and sports festival in Leipzig . Since 1974 the Greiz Fanfarenzug has been district champion of the Gera district on several occasions . Due to the consistently very good performance, he became a member of the special class of the DTSB of the GDR .

The musicians use the E / S-Umschaltfanfare, the marching drum and the high drum called "tom-tom" as instruments . The latter instrument is only played by girls and women.

In 2016, the Greiz fanfare parade took part in a world record attempt for the Guinness Book of Records as part of the 26th Fanfaronade: Biggest star march of fanfare and minstrel parades 820 musicians .
