action

first act

Just on the day when the anniversary is being celebrated again in the Kingdom of Scandalia, Jerum puts up a coup against his father, the popular King Laudamus. During the uprising, Fanferlieschen, a good witch, turns Jerum's chamberlain into a bird. Jerum injures Fanferlieschen's goat in the ear.

The revolution succeeds. Laudamus is fatally wounded. Unlike the old king, however, Jerum oppresses the people. After all, almost all virgins die out. Jerum is angry about it and asks Fanferlieschen to get him a new one.

Fanferlieschen gives her goat a human form, gives her the name "Fräulein Ziegesaar" and sends her to the new king so that he can marry her and so she can improve him. In a forest ravine, Miss Ziegesaar meets Pumpelirio Holzebocke, the evil advisor who brings her together with his master. Jerum, however, recognizes Fanferlieschen's goat by the injury in her ear. He immediately has the plan to have Miss Ziegesaar murdered. In times of need, however, help is approaching from Mr. Neuntöter, who regrets his earlier atrocities. He ensures that Miss Ziegesaar is not killed, but only walled up in a tower. In this exile she gives life to a son. It is given the promising name "Kommtzeitkommtrat".

Second act

Come time commtrat has matured into a youth. He manages to leave the tower. He applies for work with the king. He has now married Würgipumpa, but lives with her in constant arguments. Then Kommzeitkommtrat meets Fanferlieschen's apron and explains to her that he wants to defeat Pumpelirio and thus avenge his mother. Würgipumpa, who is also Pumpelirio's sister, sees through his plans and demands of him that if he wants to get away with his life he must build a castle in the air in one night as a punishment. Once again Mr. Red-backed man comes to his aid. When the castle in the air is completed, it is immediately destroyed by the angry Würgipumpa. Jerum, however, has taken a liking to Kommzeitkommat, so much so that he removes Pumpelirio as advisor and appoints him as his new advisor.

Würgipumpa devises a plan to save herself and her brother Pumpelirio: she dished up a lie when she told him that Fanferlieschen was blind. If he wanted to help her heal something, he should get swallow droppings. Kommzeitkommtrat overlooks the trap, and soon afterwards it becomes apparent that only this “remedy” beats fanferlies with blindness .

Once again it is red-backed killer who bailed out the desperate arrival time. He has a daughter who is medically skilled. She knows that Fanferlieschen can get her eyesight back through the bile of a fish . Together they make their way to Fanferlieschen.

Jerum has meanwhile changed for the better. When he found out about Fanferlieschen's fate, he immediately suspected his wife. This, in turn, fears harm and flees away in anger.

A fight between Kommzeitkommtrat and Pumpelirio cannot be stopped. Pumpelirio is losing out.

After Fanferlieschen regained her sight, she wants to hold Jerum responsible for the murder of her goat. Jerum is remorseful and protests that he will never forgive himself for this outrage. He points to the tower and explains that it is her grave. But because we are in a fairy tale, the tower releases the Miss Ziegesaar alive. Fanferlieschen is touched. She waves her wondrous apron and gives Mr. Red-backed shrimp and his daughter back their human form.

Kommzeitkommtrat and Fräulein Neuntöter have taken a liking to each other. The wedding is coming. Jerum abdicates and hands over his crown to Kommzeitkommtrat, and Fanferlieschen gives Miss Neuntöter her magical apron. The good people cheer: “The better world is made just as it was. All right! "
