Fang Kaixiang

Fang Kaixiang ( Chinese  方凯祥 , * May 12, 1940 ) is a former Chinese badminton player and coach.

Career

Fang Kaixiang was one of the most important Chinese badminton players of the 1960s and 1970s. During this time there was still a strict separation between the China-related world association WBF and the much larger association IBF, so that Fang was almost never able to compete with the sizes of the other association. In 1974, when he first met the rest of the Asian top class, Fang Kaihsiang won silver at the Asian Games , losing to fellow countryman Hou Jiachang in the final. After his active career, he began a coaching career. Among other things, he was successful as a coach in Malaysia and won silver in the Thomas Cup in 1988 with the men's team there . He also trained the world champion Hendrawan .
