Fani Popova-Mutafova

Fani Popowa-Mutafowa ( Фани Попова-Мутафова ; born October 16, 1902 in Sevlievo , † July 9, 1977 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian writer who mainly dealt with historical topics.

Career

Popova-Mutafova spent part of her childhood in Italy and lived in Bulgaria from the age of twelve. In the 1920s she gained recognition for the psychological sensitivity of her stories. Through extensive research in the archives, for example, she tried to achieve the greatest possible historical authenticity in her novel biographies. According to the judgment of the Bulgarian poet Kiril Christow , Fani Popowa-Mutafowa was the greatest Bulgarian writer and her historical novels were among the best in world literature.

During the Second World War , Popowa-Mutafowa was a participant in the Weimar Poets 'Meeting and a member of the European Writers' Association (ESV) initiated in Germany. Because of this, she was accused of a fascist attitude after the war and she was sentenced to two years in prison.
