Fanny Stevenson

Fanny Stevenson (born March 10, 1840 in Indianapolis as Frances Matilda Van de Grift , † February 18, 1914 in Santa Barbara ) was an American artist .

In 1875 Fanny decided to leave her husband, Samuel Osbourne, and study art in Europe. Rejected in Antwerp because women were not allowed to study here, she found a place in the Académie Julian in Paris. Together with her daughter. During this time, however, one of her sons died of tuberculosis. Falling into depression, she found a place in the Grez-sur-Loing colony of artists . Her future husband knew her from Grez.

She was the wife of Robert Louis Stevenson . Their children Isobel Osbourne and Lloyd Osbourne came from their first marriage to Samuel Osbourne.
