The Fantome Rock is a cliff rock off the western tip of South Georgia . It is 150 m south of Gony Point on Bird Island in the middle of Bird Sound .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it in the course of surveys carried out between 1926 and 1930. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1963 after the cutter Fantome , which was used for surveying work in this area between February and March 1961 and sank in the storm.
